Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
In order to obtain a ATPL, you need to meet the following requirements:
An applicant must:
- be 21 years or older
- obtain a valid aviation medical certificate
- have a valid certificate of competence in radiotelephony (General Radio Licence)
- have a valid SPL, or have had one of the following in the last 60 months:
- a valid South African helicopter Private Pilot Licence
- a helicopter pilot licence issued by a Contracting State
- a valid South African Air Force helicopter pilot qualification
- a valid Student Pilot Licence
- a helicopter night rating.
- An applicant must have completed a multi-crew co-operation course within the last 60 months
- have had flight training according to the air navigation regulations and technical standards
- pass the required theoretical exams
- undergo a skills test
